Meet Katie Simms

​

The start of my Fashion journey was in 2014 when I first attended Fanshawe College in Canada for the 3-year Co-op Endorsed Fashion Design program. Here my Graduation Collection "Ethereal Beauty" was featured in a New York Style Runway Show . Going to Fanshawe was the best decision I'd made thus far for my career. I gained so much vital knowledge and practical skills such as sewing, textiles, pattern drafting, draping, illustrating, Adobe programs, and business of fashion.

A week after my Collection was featured in the Unbound 2017 Fashion Show, I received the best e-mail I could imagine; The Limerick School of Art and Design in Ireland had accepted me straight into their 4th year of the BA (Hons) Degree program in Fashion Design.

There, I created many beautiful garments, but most importantly I learned how to work creatively in a different way than what I learned in Canada. In Canada we learned very practical and technical skills such as precise sewing, but in Ireland at LSAD I learned how to be a truly new version of creative. My BA Graduate Collection "Make Do" was featured in the Eva International Exhibition in Ireland and also in the Flux Degree Show at LSAD.

 

 I also wrote my thesis at LSAD which I titled: "The Slow Fashion Movement: Small Designers and the Issues Surrounding the Fashion Industry", which goes in depth to explain the issues we need to focus on and things we can do even as consumers to diminish the effects of the Fast Fashion Industry on our planet. This topic is something very important to me as a new designer.

Not only do I design, sew, and model garments, I also have been a passionate artist since I could hold a pencil and have posted my artwork here to also display my love of illustration.

I am so grateful for the experiences I have had thus far in the Fashion Industry and am excited to be a part of the Fashion Industry as it changes to become a more sustainable and transparent industry.
